I would just like to say that I think this book is the best writing that Tess has ever done. I could not put it down and finished it within 2 days. The story line was totally gripping the caractors were really life like and believable and the references to the past history of medicine had me totally absorbed. It's been a long while since a book gripped me like The Bone Garden did. It's a breath of fresh air to read a book based in times gone by and covers subjects that I last did in History at school 25 years ago ! Just read The Bone Garden. Brilliant. Tess Gerritsen I read for the first time late last year. The way she writes really grabs the readers attention to want to know more. I loved The Bone Garden. In fact, it is probably one of the best books I have read so far this year! The way Tess skilfully switches between the past and the present makes both stories riveting. The storyline is, as usual, extremely suspenseful and keeps you guessing all the time but also there is this added element of what medical care and in particular midwifery was like back in the 1830s which is both shocking and disturbing and had me dwelling on it, long after I'd finished reading for the night. I think this is one of Tess's best, a little bit different from her previous novels, but no less thrilling and had me page-turning at an incredible rate. In fact, I actually stopped reading it for a couple of days to try and make it last a bit longer. - Sandra Hawe

I've been a fan of Tess's books for years and always look forward to the next. On hearing that this one was to be a departure from the Isles/Rizzoli series and that it had a historical theme I was certainly intrigued. Of course I didn't doubt for a moment that Tess would deliver, but I really wasn't expecting to be so bowled over by it. The story has such depth and the detail of the characters and their surroundings are so vivid that I felt as though I was hauled back into the 19th century each time I picked it up. I even learned a lot from it as well. It truly was a joy to read. Suspenseful, gripping, enlightening, heart-warming and thoroughly satisfying! Oh my word what a fantastic read this is. I always say her books are very good as I read each one because it is so true, but this one is definitely the best! I absolutely loved it! I honestly didn't know if I would like it when it went from the present back to the 1830s but I just couldn't put it down at all. If I had to choose one book this year to tell people to read it would definitely be this one. I have read lots of books since the start of this year but this is by far the best! - Jeanette Slinger
